Louisiana Beignets Inspired by the Louisiana Candle

Making candles all day typically means we're surrounded by fragrance. It's usually not a problem unless the chandlers are pouring Louisiana Beignet. Oh. My. Yum. Beignets are typically a time intensive treat to prepare, but we have got a recipe that takes less time with the same great flavor! Trust me, your guests will appreciate this delicious treat!

Instructions:
  • Using a mixer with a dough hook, place water, sugar, salt, egg, butter, evaporated milk, flour, and yeast into the bowl. Beat until smooth. Remove dough from mixer and form it into an oval into lightly-oiled bowl. Cover with plastic and let it chill in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours. 

  • Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll onto a lightly-floured board until 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into 3 inch pieces into any shape you desire.

  • Using a deep fryer or large pot, heat grease to 360 degrees fahrenheit. Once temperature is reached, begin frying beignets. Fry 3-4 at a time and flip consistently for an even cook on both sides (2-3 minutes). 

  • While still warm, sprinkle powdered sugar on beignets. An easy way to achieve this is to pour powdered sugar into a bag, place beignets into the bag, and shake until evenly coated.
